We started off with a bone stock 100K mile 2001 S2000. The engine was tired and needed to be freshened. Knoxville Performance was up to the task of doing the rare stroker 2.4L modifications that was recently published in the online magazine “Turbo Magazine”. The link for info on stroking an F20C can be found here. While this usually is enough for anyone, our customer wanted to take it one step further by turbocharging this car to an impressive 450 RWHP and be daily drivable.
During the buildup, we installed a Darton Mid-Deck and Sleeve kit to help stabilize the cylinders during boost. Head studs are also a necessity.
Additionally, we replaced the AP1 transmission with the slightly stronger and better geared AP2, custom made a 3″ exhaust, installed a Carbonetics LSD, re-fashioned the interior with Sparco Milano “Prestige” seats and did a ton more mods to make this one awesome streetcar.
The turbo system we used is a Knoxville Performance custom spec’d Turbonetics T61 using a Knoxville Performance custom AIR-TO-WATER intercooler and a custom built 3″ downpipe, main pipe and dual exhuast system.
The 2.4L stroker is controlled by the new AEM series 2 stand alone computer. Traction is enhanced with a Quaife limited slip differential.
Initial tests have been amazing. On 10 lbs of boost, the car produces more than 300whp…and that’s on the low setting! After an initial breakin on 500-800 miles, the car will be retunred on the “high side” of the boost solenoid for 18-20lbs which should easily put us in the 450-500whp range.
